Ayurvedic treatments for Hives

Panchakarma

Ultimate cleanse through a series of five therapies, which is what the word Panchakarma means. These therapies include several methods of purging toxins and impurities from the body.

Pre-Treatment:

  • Shamana
  • Purvakarma

Treatment:

  • Vamana
  • Virechana
  • Basti
  • Nasya
  • Rakta Moksha

Once the body is completely cleansed, free of toxins, and balanced hives should not be an issue. Panchkarma is an Ayurvedic cleanse of the:

  • Liver
  • Spleen
  • Kidneys
  • Stomach
  • Intestines
  • Blood toxins
  • Colon

For best results, it is suggested to do a Panchkarma cleanse at the changing of the seasons. Women with a menstrual cycle should not do Panchkarma during their period.

Virechana

Virechana is a treatment that clears the small intestines. Administered only three days after Vamana has been completed (if necessary). Vamana is a process that expels unbalanced doshas through the mouth.

Virechana should also follow Snehana and Svedana. These should not be forgotten as they are one of the most important steps in preparing for Virechana. For anywhere between 3-7 days both internally and externally, herbs, oils, and natural fats are administered to purge unbalanced doshas through the intestines.

Once Vamana, Snehana, and Svedana have been administered and successfully completed, Virechana can be administered to cleanse the various pitta. The word means laxative or purging.

A blend of herbs will be administered during Virechana. This is when the body discharges unnecessary or harmful toxins and this sacred healing therapy can last 3-8 days.

Herbs

Herbs for treatment of hives may address a variety of things such as allergies, detox, or stress. Taking herbs can assess a wide range of issues such as inflammation.

Effective for mild- severe hives, ingesting, or topical herb application can soothe and treat without harmful side effects.

Neem

Take Neem pills or powder as a preventative when dealing with things that usually give you hives, if you can not avoid them.

Use Neem as an oral treatment when hives are present. Apply Neem oil topically to treat mild to severe hive outbreaks.

Patola

Also known as Ridge Gourd, Patola is rich in vitamins and nutrients and is actually an edible luffa. The skin is tough and bitter when eaten raw. Patola is often cooked in stews, soups, or sauteed.

Most of us use a loofah in the shower to scrub our skin so that it is smooth and soft. Eating this member of the loofah family can improve skin from the inside out.

Triphala

Detox your body and aid the immune system with the “three fruits,” a special blend of herbs. Amalaki, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki ground in equal parts and used in capsules, or sold in powder form for mixing into smoothies and other drinks.

Treat your doshas and ward off infection with these herbs which are safe enough to take daily. It is important to know that Triphala is a mild laxative, which may cause gas or an upset stomach.

Small changes in diet and lifestyle may mean big changes in skin health. Diet changes may include avoiding foods that bring on hives outbreaks. It may also mean eating healthier to avoid general triggers such as caffeine, sugars, and alcohol.
