What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a condition affecting between 10%-15% of menstruating women between the ages of 24 and 40. It occurs when the endometrium (the lining of your uterus) is outside of your uterus rather than inside of it.

The condition is often mistaken as period pain, and as a result, it goes undiagnosed. But in addition to the extreme period pain, untreated endometriosis can lead to lesions, chronic pain, infertility, and miscarriage.

What are the Symptoms of Endometriosis?

The symptoms of endometriosis vary and often become more severe over time. Common symptoms of the condition include:

  • Severe cramping and pain during your period
  • Excessive bleeding during or in-between periods
  • Infertility
  • Discomfort and pain during intercourse
  • Pain during bowel movements or urination
  • Fatigue
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Bloating or nausea

These symptoms typically worsen during menstrual periods. However, many cases of endometriosis present with few or very mild symptoms. So, if you suspect something isn’t right, schedule an appointment to have your symptoms addressed as soon as possible.

Herbal Treatments

Herbal remedies have also proved to be valuable in endometriosis treatment. We use a combination of herbs to address the symptoms and heal the body. These include:

  • Sathavari
  • Asoka
  • Yashtimadhu

Diet and Lifestyle

After your treatment, your therapist will provide you with a set of guidelines regarding your diet and lifestyle. Adhering to these recommendations is crucial to the success of your endometriosis treatment. These guidelines will vary from person to person, but may include:

  • Eating foods that are high in Omega-3 fats, such as fatty fish
  • Adding fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to your diet
  • Lowering your red meat intake
  • Avoiding trans fats
  • Limit caffeine intake
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Exercise regularly
  • Practice self-care and stress-management

While changing your diet and lifestyle is not a cure for endometriosis, incorporating this advice into your life can help you reduce symptoms and live a more comfortable, pain-free life.
